In the harsh winter of 2021, Phil’s life took a difficult turn and he found himself homeless, under a bridge in Denver with only a sleeping bag. Previously, Phil had been a successful business owner living in a 4-acre ranch home, but financial setbacks and eviction during COVID left him struggling to find stability and work, and ultimately, without a place to live.
However, Phil was determined to change his circumstances. When he joined Back on My Feet in January 2022, the program provided him with a community, exercise, and fellowship, which revitalized his spirit. Phil found support in the coaches and volunteers who encouraged him to participate in events like the Colfax Marathon, helping him regain physical fitness and motivation.
Back on My Feet further assisted him with financial aid to cover warranties for his business contracts, and they even provided funds for business general liability insurance, allowing him to restart his business. Phil’s accomplishments are remarkable, including running a half marathon and convincing the program to do a 14er (a hike reaching 14,000 feet above sea level). Reflecting on the experience, Phil said, “Those are memories that will last forever. We’ve changed the perspectives of lives of many people of things they can do and achieve.”
Now, Phil’s goals involve expanding his business, hiring more people, including program graduates, and giving back to the community that supported him. He values the relationships he’s built with mentors, volunteers, and fellow program members, appreciating the resources and care they offer.
