On Saturday November 3rd, the
BOMF team placed 2nd in the 5k Dash for Democracy. On a
crisp and windy day over 400 runners lined up to run for
their causes. As the crowd lined up for the start, there
were runners wearing signs, balloon hats and bunny ears to
draw attention to their causes. Issues including treatment
of returning veterans and animal cruelty represented. The
crowd was good natured and heartily sang along with the
national anthem. At the gun, it was a sprint as balloon hats
were taken by the wind and speed. The race was fast and well
planned. The police had the streets closed and there was a
nice water stop when we came around Logan circle. As we
turned back toward the constitution center we could see the
finish line from six blocks away. A line of metallic blue
stars balloons were strung across the street and dancing in
the breeze.
BOMF had 14 runners
participate on its team. Two BOMF team members placed in
their age groups. Congratulations to Charis who placed 1st
(21:02) in the 20-29 females and Mike who placed 3rd (21:59)
in the 40-49 males. BOMF took home a 2nd place trophy which
was presented by the runners from Sunday Breakfast to Dick
McMillen the Executive Director of the Sunday Breakfast
Rescue Mission.
Thanks for everyone who
helped make the Dash such a great event.
